Gir National Park

GIR NATIONAL PARK

As the rays of the setting sun dip beyond the unending horizon, and darkness spreads its flanks - a reverberating roar rips the stillness of the night. Yes, these are rumblings that roll down the hill reminding you that you're in the company of great the Asiatic Lion, whose panting can be heard over a Km. of forest.

Declared as sanctuary in 1965, sprawling an area of 1412 sq. Kms. Gir, is a dry deciduous forest. It has a luxuriantly rich ecosystem-endowed with floral and faunal plentitude. The Gir forest is home to 32 species of mammals, 28 species of reptiles, nearly 300 species of birds and innumerable species of insects.

Before booking your room with us, you must FIRST BOOK YOUR SAFARI PERMIT!

This can be done online on WWW.GIRLION.IN Unfortunately, recent forest laws do not allow hotels to book permits for their guests. You must do this yourself. We recommend booking your permit as early as 3 months before your trip.

For safaris, you have two options - Gir Jungle Trail and Devaliya Safari Park. Both offer you equal opportunities to spot a Lion! However, the former offers you a more authentic 2 & a half hour forest experience in a gypsy, with a forest guide. Devaliya Safari Park is a smaller enclosure wherein you can opt for half an hour safaris in a mini bus.

GIR NATIONAL PARK is closed from 16th June to 15th Oct every year. If you are planning to come during the monsoons, Devalia is a good year round alternative!
